Ye Olde English Nursery Rhymes [in hebrew]

The Music BabiesWell today was good fun, we actually had a good turnout at our first mummy group. In fact it was so well attended I didn’t have enough instruments for all the kids! The hard bit was trying to pitch it right – what songs do you sing with Israelis, Americans and Russians??? As it turns out, there are several old English rhymes that have made it to the Israeli song vernacular.  It’s pretty random though.  Incy Wincy the Spider they know.  And they can sing it in Hebrew.  Nobody’s heard off Baa Baa the Black Sheep.  Possibly because they have more spiders here than sheep…?  Who knows. Perhaps I ought to copyright my own song on Jukim (cockroaches), that would go down really well;

“We find them in our kitchens

we find them in our bathrooms

and when we find them in our shoes…..

we all say….aaagghhh!” [everyone screams]

Something like that.  You get the gist.

Anyway it was lovely seeing lots of smiling little faces and the mums managed to sing quite a few of the songs.  Mental note to keep it simple…. we were doing swimmingly with all the old  greats but I lost them at 5 little Ducks.  It’s hard to predict what songs non-English speakers will find more complex.  Oh well, you live you learn.  At least Husband and I now have a use for our impressive stuffed sheep collection.  They were a big hit.

These sorts of groups are very important here as many Israelis don’t have gardens.  It’s pretty hard living in a flat with small children (which is probably why they get herded off to nursery as soon as they can move) and I was pleased to see our garden being put to good use.  Not so pleased that Jojo dug half of it up with his bare hands during the second half of our session, which I couldn’t do much about what with everything going on.  It seems his main ambition in life is to create more laundry for mummy.

I suppose it’s all downhill from here really, as far as laundry is concerned. I should probably be greatful that at least his clothes don’t smell yet.  Something else to look forward to in the fabulous journey of Child Development.

P.S. Husband wants me to mention the trials and tribulations we experienced on acquiring our car with insurance (now proudly sitting outside our house).  I have told him to get his own blog.  This is my space love.

  1. So – how many came? And will you be doing it every week? Did you serve any food or drink? I can see Jojo at the front in green – looking more and more like a girl!

  2. Hope u are charging for it and turning it into a business. U would be crazy not to!

  3. Perhaps you should let ‘husband’ write on the days you don’t! He was a mean blogger, although we didn’t call them blogs 10 years ago……..

    Well done on your first mummy and me group…. are you having one next week??? I think I’m out that day!!!!

  4. Charging a nominal fee, enough to cover my expenses. Can’t really charge very much because if either of my kids need me in the middle, I have to drop everything!

  5. Jojo will be disappointed if you missed it, I am sure he wants to sing with his grandma.
