\"Me<\/a>People’s reactions to a newborn baby are hilarious.\u00a0\u00a0 Worthy of a book in itself. \u00a0Israeli women demand a closer look, sometimes a cuddle, and then make some sort of instructional comment.\u00a0 The Russians, it seems have never seen a sling before.\u00a0 Bizarre really as\u00a0 I am sure buggies haven’t been around that long.\u00a0 Today’s morning in the park was no different.\u00a0 The usual crowd. \u00a0First there was Crazy\u00a0Grandma with\u00a0the gold fillings.\u00a0 (I know its a bit mean to call her crazy as she is really friendly\u00a0but I have never managed to extract her name).\u00a0 She did her usual thing of babbling away\u00a0to me in her strange language – she looks and sounds nepalese but seems also\u00a0to communicate with the russians.\u00a0\u00a0 She positively adores Jojo and Yaron.\u00a0 Then there’s the Golden Girls as I call them.\u00a0 A group of\u00a0four trendy russian grandmas all with blonde hair, accompanying their grandaughters dolled up\u00a0in frilly dresses.\u00a0 They normally nod at me and make comments about Jojo which\u00a0I cant understand, but always smile politely assuming they are positive.\u00a0\u00a0Lastly, there are the group known affectionately as\u00a0The Bubbas, who congregate in the shaded bench area between Clalit (Doctors Surgery)\u00a0and the park, and they always<\/em> stare at me.\u00a0 Today,\u00a0two of them approached me and made the usual signs to show me that they were concerned as to whether Yaron could breathe in his sling.\u00a0 Of course he can, I told them in hebrew (which they seemed to struggle with).\u00a0 Then of course they are concerned about his neck “wouldn’t he be more comfortable lying down in a buggy? where he can stretch out” er, no I told them.\u00a0 He likes being close to his mummy, and the action.\u00a0 It always amuses me how that generation genuinely believe that a baby would rather lie flat all alone on an inert buggy staring up at the\u00a0hood than huddled against their mothers, as they have done since the beginning of time.\u00a0 As far as they are concerned, babies belong in buggies, cots\u00a0and car seats.\u00a0 How sodding miserable.<\/p>\n

Actually it seems Russian parenting is very different to Israeli, I actually don’t think they enjoy being around kids.\u00a0 In fact\u00a0I dont think these dames\u00a0enjoy anything which makes them feel “old”.\u00a0 It seems materialism is very important to them.\u00a0 I once commented to a friend on how the younger women\u00a0dress for the makolet as if they are going out on the town, and she informed me that Karmiel is nothing! Apparantly in Russia this is the norm.\u00a0 Women starve themselves so that they can afford designer clothes (and get into them).\u00a0 How terribly sad.\u00a0 An entire nation who have such poor self esteem that they would rather be stylish than healthy.\u00a0 How depressing.\u00a0 Interestingly, it seems the exact opposite of the american obesity\/size xxxL\u00a0 t-shirt phenomena, where people\u00a0let it all hang out.\u00a0 \u00a0I look forward to seeing what these\u00a0two seemingly conflicting cultures bring to the holy land.<\/p>\n

On the same note, is anyone else besides me following Neighbours? I was just wondering if anyone else might have noticed that Steph, just days after giving birth, seems to be in full makeup and\u00a0back into her skinny jeans again.\u00a0 Not even a trace of a bump nor a bad hair day.\u00a0 WTF???<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
