{"id":28,"date":"2010-07-31T21:59:34","date_gmt":"2010-07-31T18:59:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mehmehs.com\/aliyah\/?p=28"},"modified":"2013-09-11T09:12:01","modified_gmt":"2013-09-11T07:12:01","slug":"day-6-shit-its-hot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mehmehs.com\/aliyah\/day-6-shit-its-hot\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 6 \u2013 Shit it\u2019s Hot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Number of Cockroach Sightings: 1 (sadly nothing available in the bathroom to kill it with and I&#8217;ll bet it&#8217;s lurking somewhere near my bed)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My god its hot.\u00a0 Like really, <em>really <\/em>hot.\u00a0 I have lived in Israel on my gap year, plus Texas and Louisiana, and I know what hot is.\u00a0 This is bloody hot.\u00a0 Ok the humidity could be worse but I am suffering.\u00a0 I hope my foetus is not overheating.\u00a0 Its probably turning\u00a0into plasticine.\u00a0 We (eventually) make it up the hill in like 36 degree heat to a small shul started by our friend, and as we walk in (late, obviously) they offer my husband an aliyah (call up).\u00a0 He looks about to drop but he manages to mop up the sweat and get to the bimah.\u00a0 Jojo seems to have a death wish jumping off the stairs, and requests an encore to \u201cveshavu banim\u201d although I did explain to him that I can\u2019t really make that happen.\u00a0 It\u2019s a tiny, seedling community but it\u2019s growing and we receive many lunch invitations.\u00a0 I reckon you could go to some shuls back in London for 20 years without anyone noticing you, but after one morning we meet a nice American lady and lovely guy who has the same family history as me (bizarrely) \u2013 an Israeli-yemenite parent and English mother who made aliyah.\u00a0 (I have the same story but my parents came to England, so I still have to make aliyah!).<\/p>\n<p>The whole morning the thing that gets me through the heat is \u201cThe shul will have air con and so will our friends\u201d. \u00a0We arrive at the friends house for lunch whereupon his wife informs us \u201cWant the bad news?
