…or so the song went in Rosh Pinah Primary school circa 1986. Of course I sang it in reverse. And I’m sure we were not alone. One of the most fun things about watching my little boys grow up is observing their attitude to girls. My 5 year old Roni likes them. He’s friendly with them. Despite being quite boyish, into his building, climbing, cycling…. he seems to get more girl playdates than boy ones. I think it’s to do with his deeply sensitive manner (most likely inherited from his father, who survived growing up in a house with three very girly girls). 6 year-old Jojo on the other hand, has decided that all girls (bar one which he is friendly with, probably because she has admirable tree-climbing abilities) came home from a school trip the other day and confidently announced that all girls are rubbish (“except you of course mummy”). He then broke into a song, singing loudly and with gusto – which was roughly the hebrew equivalent of this blog’s title. In case you were wondering how it goes – Habanim achi tovim, habanot achi gruyot. Utterly hilarious.<\/p>\n
The same day, just a few hours later, after Roni’s little playdate had gone home, Jojo told me he thought she was “cute”. So later I asked him, “just where do you stand on girls then Jojo? Do u like them or not?”<\/p>\n
He cocked his head and told me, “weeeeell, some are ok. Most are rubbish.”<\/p>\n
