Potting Jam in the Israeli countryside.

Potting Jam in the Israeli countryside.

26 April 2011

Well after weeks of Husband moaning at me to “do something with those orangey-things on the tree” I finally got round to it somewhere amidst the post-pesach flotsam and jetsam. We have been wondering for some time what this gorgeous tree is in our garden. We have a “chinese lemon” tree that makes tiny lemons …

Kangaroos Go North…

Kangaroos Go North…

There is an old saying that you can find an equivalent to all the wonders of the world in the holy land, and therefore there is no need to ever leave it. After all, with the range of climates, rich history, variety of peoples who have migrated through the land and access to the sea what …

Pesach in Karmiel – Not even a bean.

I was planning on blogging last Thursday night after my TWO HOUR trip round supersol in the Big, but instead I came home and collapsed in an exhausted heap on the sofa. TWO HOURS and over 1,000 shekel later and I still hadn’t found what I wanted!! I still came out minus ground almonds, spices and various other things. I …

Following a rather lovely wedding we attended in the centre of the country [note to self: always enquire as to terrain of venue before selecting footwear. High heels not so great on grass whilst handling children altho I must say the great outdoors does make kiddy toilet trips a lot simpler…]  we decided to make …

Israel. Where all decent appliances go to die.

Israel. Where all decent appliances go to die.

27 March 2011

I don’t get it. We had appliances and furniture in our house in London that happily lasted us for years. Once you gave them a wipe, they looked good as new. For some reason everything we own, after just a few months, is on its last legs. Take our posh Brabantia kitchen bin [wedding present …

A rustic Purim and the missing chocolate case is SOLVED!

A rustic Purim and the missing chocolate case is SOLVED!

22 March 2011

Purim is a National fesitial in israel and pretty much everyone with kids gets into the dressing-up thing. Park Hamishpacha had a purim party [or an Ad Lo Yada as they call it here, if you get the reference] with a show, people dressed up and walking on stilts, they opened up the undercover gymyboree for …

So how does a country recover from the horror’s of last friday night? It doesn’t. Not really. My impression is that people just absorb the horror into their psyche, bury it somewhere, and hope it doean’t come out anywhere noticable. Having spoken to many friends, it appears I was not the only person to check …

A black cloud hangs over Purim. Am reeling in horror.

A black cloud hangs over Purim. Am reeling in horror.

13 March 2011

I am sure by now everyone knows about the horrific terrorist attack which happened last friday night. To my recollection it is often the case that news travels faster outside of Israel than it does within. Here’s the gist: A family of 8 living in Itamar, went to sleep on Friday night. Only 5 of them never …

If u want to get something done…

We up in the North are currently experiencing a whole week of rain… once again our garden has turned into a lake and the smell of mould permeates our bedroom. We have given up trying to get rid of it and are just accepting  furniture damages and possible bronchial diseases in our future. Every time we try to ask …

“Want to go to Akko to see the sea…” More Excursions in the North

“Want to go to Akko to see the sea…” More Excursions in the North

3 March 2011

Well I think that’s a pretty impressive statement for a just-turned-two-year-old. I mean he gets the see/sea differentiation which is great. And he remembers his experiences. Our weekly excursions are going down really well with Jojo and each week is exciting as we get out a guidebook or leaflet or go online and find some random place …

My Story

This is the story of one family’s aliyah in 2010 to the North of Israel from just North of London, beginning 26th July 2010. At the time we were a family of 3, our delightful toddling little boy was 18 months and we were expecting a new baby just 7.5 weeks later.

In 2017 we are now a family of 7, after 4 boys we were blessed with a daughter. We invite you to join the trials, tribulations and (possibly) triumphs of emigrating to the holiest, and craziest country in the world, Israel.

Sadly, in 2020, just before the pandemic hit, the family became a family of 6 when the author, Deganit, passed away, suddenly and unexpectedly, age 40.
