Excuse Me Sir, But When Do They Eat???

Excuse Me Sir, But When Do They Eat???

28 August 2012

My eldest son has now reached the grand old age of 3 and a half and is off to gan (nursery or kindergarten). Not because I actually think he will learn anything of any importance, but because I think it will be good for him to leave the house for a few hours, gain a …

My Go North Aliyah Experience

My Go North Aliyah Experience

In the past week I have been contacted by two journalists. The first was investigating possible failures in the Nefesh B’Nefesh Go North program, whereas the second was working with the Nefesh B’Nefesh Go North team and wanted to discuss my employment success in the North. The aim of this article is not to bash any organisation but to tell …

Waging the Mummy War. Israels toughest battle so far.

26 June 2012

As I sit here, dipping slices of nectarine in Elite chocolate *[about the only thing elite chocolate is good for – melting] with the strains of Arab dance music coming in through the windows from the wedding in the next village [sounds like a great party, just a bloody loud one – I shouldn’t complain, technically …

Rustic Living. Cows, kids running free, mosquitoes and street BBQs.

21 June 2012

Last shabbat I was just slicking on a dash of mascara before rushing off to shul [NB – this is considered High Maintenance where I live], when I noticed in the mirror 2 large white cows walking past my window. After doing a double take I ran to my window, and sure enough there they …

No Dogs Allowed

No Dogs Allowed

17 April 2012

So our landlady put a slight damper on things [see previous enthusiastic post] when she discovered our new 4 legged addition to the family. The conversation went something like this: “No Dogs Allowed in the House.” “But she’s tiny! And harmless! and hairless” “No Dogs Allowed in the House” “But its our furniture!” “No Dogs …

Jojo’s First Sports Chug [activity]

17 April 2012

As any BAnik will tell you, no activity is worth its salt unless it involves other people and a circle. So at some point, every Israeli kid enters the world of chugim. We decided to start him off with a simple sports chug on our yeshuv. This was a big moment for Jojo, as he …

Kitni-what??? New home, new rules.

Kitni-what??? New home, new rules.

22 March 2012

After 6 animated years of banter with Husband regarding the eating of kitniyot on pesach [he’s For, I’m Against] it boils down to this. We live in israel now. And its not the Shtetl anymore. A few weeks ago, we left Karmiel and moved to the next mountain. Its probably only a few hundred metres …

Escape from the Mould!

Escape from the Mould!

15 February 2012

Our cold, damp, smelly house now has the added comfort of being completely dark, thanks to our landlady. [“I will fix the trissim tomorrow blah blah blah…”] thankfully we knew this wouldn’t happen and we were fed up of sitting in the dark so we gave up. Since Husband is away on business we fled …

My Story

This is the story of one family’s aliyah in 2010 to the North of Israel from just North of London, beginning 26th July 2010. At the time we were a family of 3, our delightful toddling little boy was 18 months and we were expecting a new baby just 7.5 weeks later.

In 2017 we are now a family of 7, after 4 boys we were blessed with a daughter. We invite you to join the trials, tribulations and (possibly) triumphs of emigrating to the holiest, and craziest country in the world, Israel.

Sadly, in 2020, just before the pandemic hit, the family became a family of 6 when the author, Deganit, passed away, suddenly and unexpectedly, age 40.
