Just a Peasant Woman

Just a Peasant Woman

30 August 2010

To their credit, the shipping company did offer to send their boys back to finish the job.  Husband declined though as he decided he would rather not have them back in the house, plus he had done the job himself by then anyhow.  Shame, two of them were quite cute (though that could have been a …

Moving day.  Finally.  I thought the day would never come.  Managed not to give birth over shabbat so was around to supervise the removal men. Having promised to give us a heads up [which they didn’t] we find them at our new house, waiting outside impatiently.  You would have thought the sight of a 9 …

Pregnancy in Israel. Everybody is an Expert.

25 August 2010

It’s a weird thing, when the average Israeli sees a mother or pregnant woman in Israel, all boundaries go out the window.  Suddenly, everyone is your mother-in-law.  They have a right to comment on how you feed, clothe and take care of your current child, and they ask you questions about your pregnancy as if …

Number of Cockroach Sightings:  2 (one in kitchen and another by the entrance to a flat we viewed) As far as I remember, speed bumps were invented to slow down the speed of traffic in quiet neighbourhoods.  Not so in Karmiel, it seems.  Here, the bus drivers simply view them as an annoyance to be …

My Story

This is the story of one family’s aliyah in 2010 to the North of Israel from just North of London, beginning 26th July 2010. At the time we were a family of 3, our delightful toddling little boy was 18 months and we were expecting a new baby just 7.5 weeks later.

In 2017 we are now a family of 7, after 4 boys we were blessed with a daughter. We invite you to join the trials, tribulations and (possibly) triumphs of emigrating to the holiest, and craziest country in the world, Israel.

Sadly, in 2020, just before the pandemic hit, the family became a family of 6 when the author, Deganit, passed away, suddenly and unexpectedly, age 40.
