A trip to Akko and The Case of the Missing Chocolate

A trip to Akko and The Case of the Missing Chocolate

16 February 2011

Despite having been here for 6 months we still haven’t visited Akko other than to use the train station. As it’s a historical town just 20 mins away we decided we should check it out, and possibly even bag ourselves some decent fish. Friday was a really sunny day so we parked by the sea and …

One Boy, Boy for sale. He’s going cheap. 4 shekel 99.

13 February 2011

A lot of Israelis with young families would like to move to the North, as it’s getting increasingly expensive to live in the centre of the country. I think one of the off-putting factors is the lack of services & activities available to new mums. Living in London there were all sorts of things going on …

Road Trips in Israel

Road Trips in Israel

7 February 2011

We had a wedding to attend in Jerusalem last week, so thought we might as well carry on driving south. Petrol is dead expensive in this country so you kind of have to make the most of it. We spent one night in Jerusalem, one in the negev [kibbutz Alumin – just across the road …

Karmiel (כרמיאל) Supermarket Sweep

Karmiel (כרמיאל) Supermarket Sweep

31 January 2011

A Roundup of the best and the worst supermarkets in the town. I didn’t realise how much knowledge I had on British supermarkets ’til I left. I mean, you live somewhere for 30+ years and you know where to get this, where to get that, where to get parking, where to get petrol points, discounts and …

Hiking in the Galil and Jojo turns Two

Hiking in the Galil and Jojo turns Two

24 January 2011

This weekend we were fortunate to receive not one but two shabbat meal invites 🙂  realising I was essentially released from the usual shabbat preparations and my Friday was at our disposal I did what any normal Jewish housewife would do and announced… “We’re going on a tiyul.” [Israelis use the term tiyul to refer to …

What the hell is Zumba???

What the hell is Zumba???

12 January 2011

It’s driving me mad this Zumba business. Everyone’s talking about it. As I can’t seem to find a normal dance class in Karmiel I might just have to give it a go.  Meanwhile I am at least managing some yoga – although the Matnas couldn’t reconcile the issue with the Zumba class happening over our …

Geshem Geshem Laganim. On Rain & Water in the Galil.

Geshem Geshem Laganim. On Rain & Water in the Galil.

5 January 2011

For anyone who was concerned Israel not getting enough rain, they needn’t be. Our street practically floated away this morning. Once again we sang enthusiastically about rain in our chug, and one of the mothers explained to me how much fun  it was for her kids this morning putting on coats and jumping in puddles! It’s hard …

CLALIT (כללית). Just say NO.

CLALIT (כללית). Just say NO.

30 December 2010

I think the title says it all really. After 5 months of being here we are still battling with the dreaded Clalit (כללית) re: our health cover. It’s not so much  the service thats the problem, the doctors and nurses are kind [if not overstretched but that’s normal] the surgery is reasonably clean and I think they …

This ones for you, Spencer

This ones for you, Spencer

27 December 2010

A friend of mine recently requested a mention on my blog, [see title] so as he shlepped up north to see us I have granted his request.  Things have not really changed since we lived in Bushey, we still lie about how many miles we live from wherever people are coming from, otherwise they don’t …

Keeping up with british tv

Keeping up with british tv

22 December 2010

I am starting to get really cross with Neighbours (I know I know it serves me right for watching it but it keeps me company whils I crochet) apart from the storyline going from the ridiculous, to well, the more ridiculous (everyone who gets married dies within weeks, making marriage the most dangerous decision on …

My Story

This is the story of one family’s aliyah in 2010 to the North of Israel from just North of London, beginning 26th July 2010. At the time we were a family of 3, our delightful toddling little boy was 18 months and we were expecting a new baby just 7.5 weeks later.

In 2017 we are now a family of 7, after 4 boys we were blessed with a daughter. We invite you to join the trials, tribulations and (possibly) triumphs of emigrating to the holiest, and craziest country in the world, Israel.

Sadly, in 2020, just before the pandemic hit, the family became a family of 6 when the author, Deganit, passed away, suddenly and unexpectedly, age 40.
